Union Launches "AFSCME Conservative Network"
Posted On: Oct 10, 2012

AFSCME firmly believes that an inclusive, broad-based and robust political action program is an essential element of our union mission. We know that an effective political action program and positive political climate set the table for the rest of the union. It is essential, therefore, that we have not only the largest possible number of our members involved in the program but the broadest possible spectrum of members as well.

The International union and its Executive Board (IEB) created a working group of affiliate leaders and members, staffed by the Political Action Department, to study and report on ways to address the concerns of conservative members and enhance their identification with their union.

The union is creating a web-based network called the “AFSCME Conservative Network,” by which the union’s members and leaders might exchange resources, organizing strategies, effective member-to-member communication methods, union issue materials, best practices and other information related to the involvement of members in our political program.

As a union, the battles and issues we take on are determined by our mission and duty, not political affiliation or ideology. What we have in common, the so-called “lunchbox issues,” bind us together. AFSCME is dedicated to providing a forum in which all members may feel free to communicate – on union issues – and act to strengthen workers, working families and the communities in which we live. To get involved, contact the hall at 918-584-0334 today.
